Learning About Brand Voice
As a social media manager, one of the first things I do with a new client is to learn their brand voice. Below are the steps I would walk you through as a new TSSC client.
I consume all of your content. I will look through any platform you already have and try to get a feel for the images you gravitate towards, read your captions, and try to get to know how your audience currently views your business.
I ask a lot of questions about your business and brand. I want to hear from you! What do you love about your business? Why are you doing what you do? What is your ideal audience? What are your mission and values? What is your favorite food? (We’ve gotta throw some fun facts in there sometimes!) These questions will help jumpstart our relationship!
I schedule a monthly check-in call to stay updated on anything new with your business. Check-ins are important! I know that a lot can change from month to month in a small business. I want to keep up with new initiatives, business growth, and just continue to get to know you!
I pay attention to what phrases and greetings you like to use. We all have phrases and words we use often. As we talk and through observations of your current content I will make note of words and phrases you use often. This is a crucial part of your brand voice!
I analyze your writing style. Along with certain words and phrases, I will also get to know your overall style. Do you like long captions, short captions, lots of emojis, or a really polished persona? Whatever your style is, we will work together to make sure your new content still feels like you!
I send you caption ideas and posts for approval and edits. Hopefully, at this point, I’ve learned enough to write captions in your voice, but it’s a process and you will always have the ability to adjust and edit!
